A Day in the Life of a Home Caregiver: What Does In-Home Care Really Look Like?

2 min read

If you’ve never used home care before, you may wonder what a caregiver actually does during a typical visit.

The answer depends on the individual. At Attentive Care, services are based on each client’s needs and individualized Plan of Care, so no two days necessarily look exactly the same.

Starting the Day

A caregiver may begin the day by helping a client with personal care and getting ready for the day. Depending on the client’s needs, this may include assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, or mobility.

Helping With Everyday Tasks

Home care isn’t only about personal care. Caregivers may also assist with everyday activities that help a client maintain their normal routine.

Depending on the Plan of Care, this can include preparing light meals, organizing the home, providing medication reminders, running errands, assisting with transportation, or accompanying a client to an appointment.

Companionship Matters, Too

Sometimes one of the most valuable parts of having a caregiver is simply having someone there.

Companionship can provide meaningful social interaction throughout the day. Whether it’s having a conversation, sharing a meal, or accompanying someone during an activity, a caregiver can provide an important source of support.

An in-home assessment with a Clinical Supervisor helps determine what type of support is appropriate and allows Attentive Care to develop a personalized Plan of Care.

As a client’s needs change, their care can change with them.

More Than Just Help Around the House

Home care is ultimately about helping people remain safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible.

For families, professional home care can also provide peace of mind knowing that their loved one has dependable support when they aren’t able to be there themselves.

At Attentive Care, our caregivers are committed to providing compassionate, individualized care while respecting each client’s routines, preferences, and dignity.
